They started the submarine war- H fare, the air raids, the gas attacks H and first employed great guns to bat- H' ter down fortifications. Now they H have captured a British steamer and H steered the vessel in to an American B port with 452 souls aboard. H For the spectacular, the German is H unrivaled; for the unexpected, he is h without equal. H There arc two stories as to how the H Teuton gained this latest triumph. H One is that a submarine captured the H British ship, and the other is that an- H armed vessel disguised as a tramp. H caught the prize The most plausible H is that of the submarine, as the raid- H ers would have transferred their guns H to the larger ship and continued their H exploits on a greater scale. H The Germans are proving to bo the H most venturesome, daring original H fighters of all time. There is nothing H they will not attempt. H The ship, prisoners and prize crew H must be interned so that both Ger-1 H many and Great Britain will lose by Hj this unique act of war. |
