Show oo OUTLAWS WOUND FIVE AMERICANS Harlingen. Tex., Aug. 8. Five American ranchmen were wounded, two of them seriously, and several Mexican outlaws wore reported killed and wounded tonight in a fight between be-tween Texas rangers and American ranchers and a band of Mexican bandits ban-dits at Norias' ranch, ten miles north of Lyford in Cameron county, according accord-ing to a telephone message received here from Norias. The number of casualties to the Mexicans, it was said, could not be obtained. The outlaws, estimated to number between thirty and fifty, attacked the Norias ranch house shortly before aark. Fourteen ranchmen barricaded themselves In the house and defended defend-ed the place until 10 o'clock, when, the message said, the Mexicans withdrew with-drew temporarily. Shortly after the bandits had withdrawn sixteen Texas rangers and armed civilians arrived. At 10.30. the report says, the Mexicans Mexi-cans returned, unaware that reinforcements reinforce-ments had arrived. They again 1 charged the house and were met with a volley of shots from the rangers and several of the Mexicans- were killed. The outlaws retreated. A special train left Harlingen shortly short-ly before 10 o'clock tonight, carrying carry-ing thirty-five United States soldiers and twelve armed civilians to reinforce rein-force the Americans on the Norias ranch. Passenger trains are running through the affected district tonight without lights. A report over railroad telegraph wires at midnight said the Mexicans were retreating southward from Norias.
