Some surprise was occasioned at the mine when several of the most radical leadera of the strike appeared and asked for employment expressing a willingness to comply with the company com-pany s requirement that all slcn the contracts. One who was turned back evidently had a sense of humor for he sent a brother agitator up to' tho mine with the Information hat U,e superintendent wished to s0 hIn. When the man presented himself to I Superintendent James Humes he was surprised to find that no such message mes-sage had been 6ent him. He then asked for work, but was told that the company could not use him. Some of the men who flinched from braving tho storm to go up the hill telephoned to the office at the mine, asking that they be allowed to report for work tomorrow. While today wn3 tho last day of grace for former employes em-ployes to claim' preference, yet it is expected that about fifty more will make application for work tomorrow, or next day. Between thirty-five and forty new men applied at the mine for work today. They were told to make application again after the time set for taking back the old employes had expired. Some of these new men will undoubtedly be put to work within with-in tho next few days, as the operation of the mino becomes sufficiently organized or-ganized to permit of their being used. A full shift was worked in the mine today and tomorrow a night shift will be put on. The ending of the strike has met with Universal satisfaction in the camp for the reason that the present storm, during which half a foot of snow has fallen, has made tho threat of unemployment 'for so many men a serious thing to contemplate. Everything Ev-erything In the town of Park City and at the mine is peaceful, so far as the miners are concerned, the elements being the only thing disturbed. |
