Show i; .DEEP CREEK II i GET A RAILROAD I ' ) 8alt Lake, Nor. 24. An extension r from Wendover into tho Deep Creek ' 'j country, in all probability, will be (j , among the first considered hy the Jj I Western Pacific after the road is out (of tho receiver's hands, according to i C. M. Levy, general manager of the company. Mr. Levy came to Salt Lake yesterday to attend the annual meeting of the Salt Lake City Union Depot and Railroad company and to confer with tho officials of the Denver Den-ver & Rio Grande. Ho left last night for San Francisco. Mr. Levy said: "There is little opportunity for developing de-veloping tho country adjacent to our main lino In Utah and Nevada and the first thing wo shall consider after the road is out of the receivers hands will be the construction of branch lines for feeders. Thero are some sections In California that can be developed, but even there a number num-ber of short branches will be needed. "East of Portola there are not many opportunities for branches. The Deep Creek line seoms tho most feasible feas-ible and the most likely to give ub good tonnage almost from tho start. I have had some men in the district recently gathering data so that I may be in a position to Btart something as soon as the road is In a financial condition to do so . When that will be I cannot say. "There has been some talk that the receivers would be relieved about tho first of the year, but it has been my experience that few roads come out of the receivers' hands in less than two years. Of course, until the road has been reorganized there is little hope for extension, as the receivers re-ceivers are only expected to maintain the property. "There is another little branch from Grant's to a quarry owned by Salt Lake people that will be among the first to be considered. The extension from Winnemucca into Idaho seems to mo to be a long way off. Thero Is a big country to cross to get to the section that is being developed and, unless there Is considerable assistance as-sistance from outside sources, I believe be-lieve the Wlnnemucca-Boise extension will be among the last to bo seriously considered." |
