Show GROCERS MUST OBEY THE LAW Salt Lake, Nov. 25. Six grocery houses were admonished yesterday by the state dairy and food commission to cease violations of the law which prohibits false claims in advertisements advertise-ments of foodstuffs. Four of the grocers appeared bo-fore bo-fore the commission yesterday afternoon after-noon The other two were not present pres-ent and will be notified to appear before be-fore the board at its next mooting. This was tho first time that tradesmen trades-men have been cited "by the state bureau bu-reau for violations ot this law. As the commission was convinced that tho tradesmen did not intentionally violate the law, no formal charges were preferred against them. Tho four present yesterday promised that they would not violate the law again. Samples of butter, which they had advertised as "tho best creamory butter," but-ter," were found by State Chemist Harms to be rancid. Maple syrup advertised ad-vertised as "pure maple syrup" was fo.und to be a cano syrup with maple ma-ple flavoring. Other products said to havo been misrepresented were lard and strawberry jam. Establishments whose apresenta-tlves apresenta-tlves appeared before the commission commis-sion yesterday were the Utah Grocery, 140 East Second South street; Capital Grocery company, 131 West First South street; Uodgert's grocery, 476 East Second South street. Others cited who did not appear were the People's department store, 42 West First South street, and A. E. Johnson, 62 West First South street. oo |
