Wheat developed strength today, influenced by reports of an urgent demand at Liverpool, and by announcement of clearances from Australia and Argentina continued con-tinued to be light. There were also advices that for the first time in six months the government of Holland was negotiating for American flour. Falling off in receipts northwest counted further against the bears. The opening, which ranged from 1-8 to 7-Slc hlghor, with May at $1.29 3-8 and July at $1.22 1-21.22 5-8. was followed by a reaction but then Dy a iresn upturn. Corn hardened with wheat. At first, however, rather free selling by commission com-mission houses tended to depress the market After opening unchanged to 1-4 c lower, prices rallied and scored something of an advance abovo yesterday's yes-terday's finish. Oats maintained a relatively firm tone. Tho chief factor was demand from the seaboard. Weakness in the hog market led to a setback for provisions. Hog receipts re-ceipts throughout the west were more than doublo the total on the corresponding corre-sponding day a year ago.
