Show HISTORICAL SOCIETY. A most enjoyable meeting of the Historical society was held on Saturday Sat-urday last at the Maids and Matrons club rooms, with Mrs. B. F. Thomas as hostess. The business portion of the meeting was taken up in making plans for the entertainment of visitors visit-ors during tfro meeting of tho State Federation of Women's Clubs, to be held in this city during this week. The prograJn was In charge of Mrs. Maison, and under the general heading head-ing of "Current Topics," many interesting inter-esting subjects wore discussed. Mrs. Bishop, the president, reviewed in a most able and pleasing fashion, the article by William Hard, entitled "What You and I Owo to England, France, Russia, Germany," outlining what these various countries have contributed to civilization. Several other membors took part In the program, pro-gram, among them Mrs. Newcomb who read "The Automobile Whirl," Mrs. Maison, "When Chicago Strikes" and Mrs. Adams, "Fifty Years After the Birth of a Nation, which deBcrib- ed the Lincoln Jubilee held in Chi- i cago, commemorating fifty years of freedom and of the progress of the Negro raco, the program closing with the reading by Mrs. Corey of the bright little poem, "A Day," by Mc-Landburgh Mc-Landburgh Wilson. The rooms were . bright with autumn flowers and dain- '. ty refreshments carrying out the club colors, yellow and white, were served by the hostess. ( |
