Show oo- THROUGH PASSENGER TRAFFIC ON WESTERN PACIFIC. Salt Lake, Jan. 12. Through passenger pas-senger traffic was resumed over the Western Pacific yesterday, but only one train was run each way Train No. 1 left Salt Lake in the afternoon for San Francisco and train No 2 which left Oakland yesterday will come through to Salt Lake. Owlne to the tracks through the Feather river canyon still being In bad condition con-dition as a result of snowslides thf Western Pacific abandoned trains No 3 and No. 4. These trains win not be run until after January "o according to present plans of the od-erating od-erating department. Trains No 1 and No 2 will be run daily unless the road is again blockaded by slides Several slides were so extensive that it was Impossible to clear them up so that freight traffic could be resumed nnd "shoo-flles1' were built around them. This new track is not in the best condition as it Is on the edge of the canyon. Precautions are being taken for the safe passage of both passengers and freight trains oifer the new tracks. A firge force I of men Is at work In the canyou clearing clear-ing away the smaller slides while steam shovels and dynamite are being be-ing used In removing the larger slides. Owing to the burned journal on a freight car at Grizzly, Colo, near Glenwood Springs, train No. 5 on the Denver & Rio Grande was delayed atmost nine hour.-, yesterday. Instead ol arriving In Salt Lake at 2:35 o'clock in the afternoon It came in as the first section of train No. 3 at 10:45 last night. Train N o.l had just passed the freight train when the accident occurred to the journnl which threw the car across the main track and the siding. Train No. 1 arrived on time. |
