Washington, Jan. 12 The first winter win-ter weather of the new year and the first real cold snap of the present winter win-ter was spreading generally over the country today The cold wave was central this morning over extreme western Minnesota Min-nesota and advancing eastward. Very low temperatures prevailed everywhere every-where east of the Rocky Mountains, except in the northeastern part of the country. A reading of 30 degrees below be-low zero was recorded at White River Canada. The low temperatures are predicted to continue in the upper lake region, the Ohio valley and in the south, where frost toni?ht will be felt as far south as Miami, Fla. The cold wave Is expected to advance eastward rapidly, rapid-ly, reaching the Atlantic coast by Tuesday morning, Generally fair weather is predicted but storm warnings warn-ings are displayed on the Atlantic coast from Hatteras to Eastport. Omaha Experiencing Cold. Omaha, Jan. 12 Omaha and vicinity vicin-ity experienced the lowest temperature tempera-ture of the winter early today when the mercury dropped to three above zero. Thirty Degree Drop in Iowa. Des Moines, Iowa Jan. 12. A drop of nearly 30 degrees in temperature was recorded throughout central Iowa early today. In Des Moines the government gov-ernment thermometer stood at 13 above zero at 6 o'clock. |
