Already about 40 candi dates have signified their intention of taking tha examinations, which will bfl londueted by a board designated b) the president. Hitherto this board has consisted of the assistant secretary secre-tary of state, the solicitor of the state department, the chief of the diplomatic diplo-matic bureau, the chief of the bureau of appointments of the state department, depart-ment, and the chief examiner of the civil service commission. The names of the successful candidates candi-dates will he placed on an eligible list from uhlch appointments for embassy and legation secretaryships will he made. Not all or Ihe vae.meies will be filled directly trom this list, as many will be filled by transfer.
