Show WRECK IN THE SALT LAKE YARDS A wreck occurred in the Denver & Rio Grande railroad yards at Salt Lake City at 1:30 oclock this morning, morn-ing, when the head engine of a doubleheader on passenger train No. 8 struck a split frog, and, leaving the track, turned over on its side. The engineer and fireman escaped by jumping. The remainder of the tralu eld not leave the track. No. 3 was about three hours late, and shortly before 1.30 o'clock was enterin gthe Salt Lake yards. The train, which was a beav; one. was drawn by two locomotives, and was running at a high rate of speed. The head engine split a frog, jacknlfed " and tore up the track When it was leaving the rails the engineer and fireman jumped clear of the engine, which later turned over. The second engine did not leave the rails and was not damaged The tram was backed away from the wreck and detoured over a sidetrack to I he-depot. he-depot. The damage to the locomotive and track will be very heavy. Tbe passengers escaped with a slight shaking up. n n |
