Show American Legion Seek Endowment Fund "Utah is ready to hear the appeal of the American Legion for the two greatest classes of sufferers of the World War the disabled men and the orphans or-phans of fallen veterans," declar ed John E. Booth, commander of the Utah department of the , Legion. The Amerivan Legion campaign camp-aign for a $5,000,000 Endow-men Endow-men Fund for rehabilitation and child welfare, which has been going on in several states, is now under way in Utah. It will culminate cul-minate in an intensive drive probably about the last of May. "The American Legion wants the American public to have the opportunity of helping the Legion Leg-ion help the disabled vetrans and the children of men who gave up their lives as a result of their service to the country," Commander Com-mander Booth said. "Rehabilitation "Rehabili-tation and child welfare are the two greatest post-war problems. They are so closely related that they are almost one. What disabled dis-abled father has not looked down upon the faces of rependent child ren with terror lest they suffer the pangs of privation which his restoration to health alone can prevent? Does not his mental men-tal anguish over the fate of little children erect a material bar to his own reconstruction? "There are 35,000 war orphans and many times more sick, ailing ail-ing and disabled ex-service men whose lives the war blited. We can not do much for them our debt can never be fully repaid. The American Legion has assumed as-sumed the obligation of seeing that these two consequences of the war receive a full measure of justice, but we need the public's pub-lic's assistance to the limit. "Everywhere the endowment movement has spread, it has met with a hearty reception. I know it will meet that same response in Utah." President Coolidge is Chairman Chair-man of the national honorary committee for the endowment fund and all members of his cabinet cab-inet have endorsed it. Leading men and women of the country in all lines of endeavor are members mem-bers of the national endowment fund committee. Already the w'ork or organising organis-ing state and local endowment fund committees has been begun. These committees will contain the names of prominent citizens and members of the Legion and Legion Auxiliary. Earl Nepple of Copperfield (Continued on Last Page) AMERICAN LEGION (Continued from Page One) has been appointed to make the necessary arrangements for the appointment of committees in the Bingham district. |
