Show EXCITEMENT ENDS IN A LAUGH The police of the city were lead to believe that a daring band of purse Bnatehers had begun operations this morning, when Mrs Jessie A. Meeks, of Los Angeles, reported to Patrolman Patrol-man letrv Kelliher at the Union station sta-tion that her purse, containing $25, a valuable ring and a ticket to Los Angeles, An-geles, had been stolen. Much excited, the lad told the of-ficer of-ficer thai the robbery bad been committed com-mitted b two Greeks whom she bad observed following her in the depot 'She further claimed that the strap i to the purse had been cut with a j sharp knife for she Carried It on her I arm and know it had not fallen. After listening to the story. the patrolman decided to telephone to the Salt Lake to have the two Greeks 1 held, if by chance they should have headed that way It was also planned plan-ned to have 'he police of tbo city notified no-tified of the affair that they inighr arrest all suspicious characters. When all these- plans were about to be put into execution, a gentleman who bad beard the story remarked that a handbag resembling the one described was on a scat in the waiting wait-ing room The ladj hurried to the point nnd picked up her purse containing con-taining her valuables, laughed and caught her train. |
