Show YOUNG MAN IS SENT TO PRISON f This morning before Judge James A. Howell appeared James Duncan, a 1 slf-confes6ed forger, to receive seo tence. He was sentenced to thr years in the state penitentiary, the court advising the prisoner that, on good behavior, he would be release id from the prison walls at tho end of two years and three month? Before sentem e was passed, Duncan Dun-can stated that he had never been sent to the penitentiary and that he had never committed a crime although he had been associated with criminals I the past few years He said that h had become addicted to the USe Ol I morphine the past four years and thai under its influence lie knew not what he did. He said that he is erso.l in stenography and typewriting and had held Important positions as 'I'M I Through . sickness, he had used morphine, mor-phine, but he desired to overcome it Judge Howell told the young fellou that he thought he could be weaned I of the pernic ious habit in about three years. Duncan signed the name of Otto E. Lund to a check for $7 |
