Show salt lake tribune IN INTEREST OF FOREST SERVICE leavitt looks over situation before opening headquarters in salt lake clyde leavitt chief of organization of the bureau of at washing ton arrived in salt lake yesterday to look over the situation before opening the headquarters of the district forester for tho the intermountain region lie he visited some of the large omee office buildings to learn what arrangements could bo be made for gli carters arters for the district forester and his staff and met representatives senta tives of several of salt lakes commercial organizations among these was C B stewart secretary of the utah wool growers who on learning that efforts were being made in ogden to secure the district headquarters of the forestry service called the attention of the officers of other organizations to the matter mr stewart thinks that as the government land office and other offices in which the sheep men have frequent business are located here tho the district foresters office should also be in salt lake under the district forester at salt lake will be about fifty men in the beginning this number will in time be increased to the revenues of the district will aggregate about at present but will be more than in a few years the change will result in the removal from washington of one halt half of the present force in the chief foresters office these men will be divide ed among the district foresters at san francisco portland helena denver albuquerque and salt lake the district foresters for estera will not assume charge of their departments until january 1 1909 |
