OGDEN HORSE READY FOR BIG ENDURANCE CONTEST automobile to start soon from denver to flag the route for contestants te to follon Fo at least one ogden borso is to be entered in tho douver ogden endurance race which Is scheduled to begin early in april at afie city hall square the animal la the property of frank sparks and is salijo be a wonderful mountain climber and long distance traveler recently sparks rode the horse over a thousand miles between a point in montana and ogden through the basin and mountainous sections of tho southern part of the state through the rough places of wyoming and down the enow covered roads of northern utah without urging the horse the trip was made at the rate of about fafty miles per day and when sparks reached ogden his mount was as fresh as when the trip was commenced the horse has been ridden from balse to and has gone a mile jaunt several times it Is claimed by western horsemen that eastern thoroughbreds a number of which have been entered will not finish tho trip ahead of tho western entries because they are not hardened to long distance drives mountain passes and high altitudes from mexico and canada which are to be entered are given a good chance but animals from foreign countries aro looked upon as being unsuitable for the country over which it Is proposed to conduct the contest As soon as the weather permits an automobile will be sent out from denver to flag tho road and every contestant will be required to follow tho edmo route tho distance Is approximately miles and tho main track ot tho union la to be followed almost continuously the start is to be made at noon in front of tho city hall and riders may use their own methods of baud ling their mounts except that abo weights carried by each animal must bo as near ailko us possible
