Show ICE NOW AT AN A EN 1 HARRIMAN ROADS HAVE TONS IN OGDEN railroad shops have much work in sight and may be kept active the work of harvesting the ice crop for the utah division of the union pacific railroad has boon been completed at evanston and tho the men engaged in the task have either boon been discharged or given employment in ia other departments of the service nearly sixty thousand tons of ice have been cut at LI evanston vanston during the last sixty days and of this large amount about tons have bee been n received at and stored in III the several large larg c ice houses of the co company at ogden about the same amount has been housed at evansa evanston 0 n and lesser leaser tonnage of this congealed comfort for use during the heated season has been put away at green river rawlins and other points along the division the work of ga garnering mering the ice crop has been mone under the supervision of P A beek beck who arrived from evanston last evening and he asserts that more ice has been cut and stored this winter than ever gerore lie he adds that the ice is of an excellent quality clear pure and healthful in every respect A large amount of this will bo be used for refrigerator and fruit cars during the hot weather and as california has the greatest fruit crop this year ear ever known there it is urged by railroad men that vast quantities of ice will be necessary to preserve the california product during its shipment to eastern markets aside from this every coach and pullman car going over the union pacific will be supplied with ice during the entire year and this in itself will absorb much of the crop just harvested the special car with mr underhill anda and a party of mining magnates from michigan on board arrived from the east on no 3 this djs morning and after a brief sojourn at ogden left for salt lakeit is understood der stood the party will visit several utah mining camps arid add then dien continue the trip west test over the san ban pedro road the light freight traffic on tiro tho southern pacific has had the effect of filling the ogden round house bouse with idle road engines and nearly every stall is now occupied while eight or nine bad order engines have been placed on trucks tracks between the master mechanics office and the machine shops tho the latter are aab being run into the shops for general repairs as fast as room is made for them and to the ordinary layman unfamiliar with railroad business it would seem there is work enough ahead at the shops to insure full timo time for the present force employed the repair racks bracks are also filled with bad order cars and a small army of men are putting them in proper condition and sending them out as fast as possible the new emergency hospital is located bated immediately north of the master mechanics office in the ogden yards and is assuming an attract attractive lye appearance and attracting wide attention the exterior is a bright yellow with white trimmings and the woodwork of the Inter interior lor is of pea green and drab colors pleasing to lo mhd eye and cheerful in appearance there are six well lighted lighte hod and thoroughly ventilated apartments and these include a handsome operating tIng room reception hall bath room and toilet apartments A nice little porch adorns the eastern front of the new structure and a wide comfortable comro veranda extends across the entire building on the west side As one or the railroad men said this morning it will bip b almost a pleasure to become a patient there with such pleasant surroundings surround inga and dr perkins will have to drive the boys away awan with a club if they are kept on tho the payroll while occupying quarters there superintendent whitney and an d irn engineers maitland Malt land and altman returned last evening from a trip over tho utah division jack J ack shipman traveling passenger agent of the rock island system arrived front from the east and arter resting up in ogden will make a trip southern nevada trainmaster luty took a little jaunt at west to Mon montello lello and will linger on the road indefinitely ile he has also been assigned assign od the part of a german baron at the elks entertainment and now talks high dutch like a native of holland |
