Show WELL ATTENDED GOOD CITIZENS MEETING boys parade in the afternoon was carried out with undaunted enthusiasm the good citizens Citi rens mooting under the auspices of the local W C T U organization was held at the methodist church last evening the meeting was reasonably well attended ana an interesting program was rendered mrs D N smith presided over the meeting and music was sned by vocal talent of the city the rol lowing program was given song some glad day mrs zim bennan mass cylc r jay smith and darlana DArla nl scripture reading crusade psalm mrs D N smith prayer mrs E E shepard five minute speeches enforcement of our laws judge hoholl i solo by mrs F N hass duet miss adlle gunnell and howard rles making ogden a better city for our boys prof david cloyd quartette the homo guard mrs zimmerman miss tyler and smith and darland song 1 we are from home and mother chorus of boys the twentieth century crusade miss lucy broad of london england chorus battle hymn of the republic choir and audience benediction rev zimmerman the speakers enforced the thought of temperance and better living and better citizenship sunday closing of saloons the prohibition of prize fights gambling ana other vices that creep into all communities muni ties and municipalities were en urged and the good people of ogden were asked to co operable in the movement to bring these things about judge howell laid great stress on the idea that the laws now on the statute books of the state and the ordinance books of the city be strictly enforced that it the law is against prize fighting and sunday opening and gambling and the selling of liquor to minors the law should be enforced and such things stopped state president mies lulu shepherd of the W C T U and miss lucy broad of london took a great interest in the meeting and filled important parts n the program this meeting was the first of a series of meetings of the kind that will be held in ogden the object as to correct certain civic wrongs that the temperance union insists ehlt in the cities and towns of the country and i bring about a better condition of affairs in the governmental institutions some of the mottoes that were the slogans of the eveking were make us law abiding citizens by keeping the law yourself hurrah for alie mayor who is striving for the boys of ogden A dollar or a boy which make our hag stand for god and home and native land a stainless flag these sentiments wore inscribed on canvas banners that were carried by a small army of boap during the afternoon and which did much to appeal to the better feelings 0 many people and persuade them to join in the crusade against the ovil conditions that are pro valant tho streets were wet and celd and muddy but the boys were undaunted in enthusiasm to carry the banners and joyously they trailed through tho wot streets carrying them aloft |
