Show GRADING AND THE construction OF SEWERS START formal order received from salt lake to go ahead with the big bridge formal orders have been received by railroad officials to commence construction st work on the big Os len via duct and as a result of these instructions all the men who applied for work this morning were given employment putting in new crossings on twenty fourth street directly south of the regular street those given employment this morning cre reinforced by otteen or twenty men in the afternoon and the force will bo enlarged from day to day until every man who can work to advantage will be employed on the task that will occupy twelve or fifteen months tor completion ion tho improvements mapped out at ogden by the harriman system will occupy nearly two years of alms and will require the expenditure of several hundred thousand dollars all of which has been appropriated and is now available for the work as it advances the immediate work to follow the completion of the crossings now being put in will be the removal of four hundred linoal feet of curbing on twenty fourth street and the construction of two hundred lineal feet of six inch water mains to drain the territory adjacent to viaduct foundations the order received at railroad headquarters authorizes the immediate construction of sixty concrete piers and the abutments and retaining walls as well as the grading necessary for both the eastern and western approaches pro aches to the viaduct the latter work will necessitate the employment of a large number of teams as well as a heavy force of laborers tho rearranging of tracks acoss twenty fourth street to permit the construction of heavy piers for the huge bridge will necessitate the removal of more than seven hundred feet of arid the putting in of four new switches in order to connect the now drain with the system something over a thousand feet of twelve inch and 1190 of eight inch alt pipe will bo put in and tills work is also to start at once the order just received also authorizes the construction of eight manholes and a large number of literals laterals late rals to connect with the downpours down pours from the viaduct the structural iron and steel tor the viaduct has been ordered several months and all of the materi alof that nature necessary for the big structure will arrive on the ground as it is needed as the work progresses the work inaugurated this morning marks the beginning of an era of rad leal improvements at ogden long contemplated tem plated by the harriman management and thomp in authority at railroad headquarters in this city say there will be no cessation in the good work until the viaduct stands complete and ready for use by the general public and a handsome and modern new freight depot I 1 ready for occupancy by joint agent william H chev ers and his clerical abaft of em aloyes JJ mckinnon Is the local representative senta tive of B C co makers of high grade varnishes for all requirements and carries an ample stock which enables him to meet all demands promptly |
