Show WITNESSES TELL OF THE SALT LAKE ROBBERY isalt lake april 24 two former and a member of the board of directors of tho utah national bank were the witnesses summoned to appear before abo federal grand jury this morning alvin 0 strong for merly fari fl ri assistant cashier and W W trimmer second assist 1 ant cashier were examined at length as was also cuncan macvichie of tho board of directors ahta afternoon a number ot tho clerks haro been summoned and it Is probable that all of those at the bank will be given in opportunity to tell their saoi les the two important witnesses this morning were mr strong t and mr trammer mr strong was in the bank for a long time and was in the full confidence of the directors when the money disappeared he was there before mr adams came from tho national bank of the republic chiler mr trimmer came afterwards and occupied a position in the confidence of mr adams similar to the friendship between joseph nelson and mr strong the first investigation undertaken by tho detectives centered about mr strong most prominently abodd the surface concerned themselves with him these cluess appeared in print in a newspaper to which sir adams Is commonly under to have furnished most of the information it has received and in which haf lids out a public state ment charging strong with bad faith in the matter of pretending ho did not know a combination which he had in fact known for several years the clues leading W mr strong hal to do with satchels which he and mr rich carried from to the bank and back again occasionally the clues worked completely to the bottom and given ap mr rich waa before the jury yesterday afternoon mr trimmer was also called at that time but his not con eluded until this morning so far he has bean before the grand jury for a longer time thany any other witness sleuth baa come forth from alg inthe case by preparing a suit which will be planted at once against W r avrams and attorney hayry robinson it is tor the money he claims Is due him tor doing shadow work for which ho has never been paid attorney Coughl lu placed the matter in the bands of an actor ney yesterday afternoon he declares that he Is not going to lot adams or robinson go before a grand jury and make statements insinuating that he was guilty 0 blackmail as he says ro ison all when his all was first presented both detective mues and former chief of police sheets are now interested in the case former chief sheets visited the grand jury room this morning but tor what object was not learned sol kimball in charge of the jury would not state whether he had been as a witness or not both mr nelson and mr adams are waiting to be by telephone when they arc wanted as witnesses and from present appearances they will be among the last summoned |
