Show OBSERVE THESE POSTAL RULES Unless the r.rcels are marked "Do not Forward," all persons who, after August 1, present for mailing insured or C.O.D. features will be looked upon up-on as guarantors of the return or forwarding postage where the parcels remain undelivered, it was announced yesterday by local postal authorities. This announcement resulted from instructions in-structions received from the postmaster postmas-ter general. The new ruling was adopted, it was explained, because of the fact that many packages of this nature have been mailed when" the persons to whom they were addressed were on the road and it became necessary to forward the articles from one place tg another. In some instances of this nature, where the addressee has been continually on the move and several forwardings have been necessary, the postage has exceeded the value of the parcel. In order to call the attention of the public to the new order, the following follow-ing announcement has been issued at the local office. "On Augusf 1, 1925, all domestic insured in-sured and collect-on-delivery parcels are accepted with the understanding that the senders, in every instance, guarantee any return or forwarding postage which may be necessary when such parcels become undeliverable. "This understood guaranty is a primary pri-mary condition upon which any domestic do-mestic parcel may be accepted for insurance in-surance or to be sent collect-on-delivery, and, if not stated on the parcel, par-cel, it is to be implied in every instance, in-stance, so that, regardless of whether or not any insured or C.O.D. parcel mailed on -or after August 1, 1925, (Continued on page 8) s' . . ' " ' t . Observe Postal Rules (Continued from page 1) bears the postage pledge or guaranty, it is to be treated as though the pledge or guaranty were actually on the parcel par-cel itself. "In order that senders of insured or C. O.D. mail may protect themselves against repeated forwarding of such mail on the requests of addressees, the senders may, if they desire, indorse in-dorse the parcels "Do Not Forward" in which event postmasters will ignore the forwarding orders of addressees and immediately return the parcels to the senders, rated up with the amount of postage to be collected on return to senders. "In the event the sender does not desire an undelivered insured or CO. D. parcel returned to him, such par-eel par-eel should bear instructions as to the disposition to be made of same. A parcel of this character which cannot be delivered to the original addressee and which the sender does not desire returned will be considered as "abandoned" "aban-doned" and thereafter the sender will have no claim upon it." |
