Show A FOLETTE BIL 9 ON RAILROAD mm VALUATION CAN NO LONGER BE suppressed IN N COMMITTEE y majl majority alty of senators are in favor of t 1111 reporting the measure y f 1 I washington feb 15 an echo ot the railroad rate fight that continued during the two previous sessions oc of congress was heard today in the sen ate ato committee on interstate cm commerce merce emch had bad under coil consideration ald beratto ii senator LaFollett les bill providing that the interstate commerce commission shall ascertain the face value of the property of every railroad engaged in in ter state commerce when the rate bill was under consideration alde ration a year ago senator lafollette offered an amendment identical in III terms with the pending bill pro viding for or th the valuation evaluation of railroads but it was laid on the table opposition to hie his measure developed toda coming from the same senators who opposed the radical feature of the railroad rate rate bill when it was in corn com lust last session ito it was apparent today however that there are enough vetes in the ule committee to report the bill whenever it can be brought to a vote the senators who opposed the tile report today said that their objections were not b because they were against the proposition to ascertain the value of rall rail roads but because of their beller belief that thal there should b be certain amendments to the bil bill it was said that the task proposed to i be placed upon the interstate commerce commission might hamper that body in performing other necessary work at the suggestion of these senators it was agreed hat that the bill pill should be referred to tho the commission for a report as to whether that body desired any amendments the rep lyof the committee Is 10 expected on Tu tuesday next and the tile bill will then be reported unless amendments arp offered and find reported in such a manner as to prevent action |
