Show BEAUTIFUL OGDEN the streets and lawns of ogden have received much attention during the past week weel and one has but to ride about the residence sections of our city icicy to realize how earnestly and zealously the people are undertaking the work woric ot of beautifying the city judging from the present outlook we are going to have a very pretty city indeed this summer the past few days have seen much t accomplished in irl more ways than one one of the most helpful improvements from an artistic point of view is the removal of some of the fences from in front 0 of the cawns all who t pass along twenty fourth street cannot i tall fail to note the improvement made by taking away the fences between jefferson I 1 and adams the general effect is so much more pleasing to the eye that one can but wonder why yby any adv of tho unpainted and needlessly high fences should longer longer remain n around go vo many of the lawns they give too much of a country air to our streets and now that stock Is no longer allowed to pass along the streets there IB is no further need for them another work of value has been accomplished complis hed in the clearing clear lAg and cleaning up of ot many of our vacant lots ogden has an exceptionally large num ber of vacant lots and the appearance of these do much in making or marring the neat appearance of the town in many sections the adjoining residents have banded together and cleared thee lots in others the owners or real estate agents have done so much more are could be done along this line however As many of these are owned by out of town people why not petition the council to pass an ordinance giving power to tax such prop erty for sufficient an amount to keep the lots in a neat beat condition there them are two streets in town to which especial attention should be called north adams and south grant are improving very rapidly and ix becoming com very attractive the great number rf t new homes have done much for this but the improved condition of the streets has accomplished more it does seem hard to the honest and public spirited citizens that the flower beds which they have worked over cannot be allowed to grow un plunder ed by those who are too indolent to try to grow their own the numerous complaints have bave aroused the police and special men will patrol these positions of tho city in the future from all sides comes the inquiry when are they going to park the city ball hill square and aa ae the days go by the answer seems to be as far ott oft as ever to the taxpayer who not only pays taxes but works upon his own I 1 bit of property to keep it attractive it does seem rather hard to think taink that the one great needy place lies neglected the answer Is ls given however that arvery very soon the work upon this square will vill be commenced and hurried to a raped completion and then ahat has BO so long been the most unsightly will become one of the most attractive parts of the city |
