Show DEWEY OPPOSED TO HAZING he is in favor of dismissing the participants chicago dec 21 A dispatch from washington D C says admiral dewey has taken an emphatic stand against the hazing practices which prevail at he naval academy at annapolis it is a disgraceful condition of affairs ho said yesterday it calls for prompt and vigorous remedy the secretary of the navy should be empowered to dismiss instantly any boy caught in the act of hazing and the culprit should be deprived of all hope of setting back he should be dismissed and excluded forever the naval academy is the ciagle of the navy and there n the opinion of the admiral should coln the inculcation of the principles of obedience to law and regulation which are essential to tho maintenance of an of service of course boys arc the same all over the world they will be boya said admiral devey 1 I am not opposed to fair fighting when circumstances are such that it ii I i the proper thing to resort to we do not want in our navy men who hesitate to resent an insult but we do not want prize fights and ill la unfair and unmanly tor several boys to attack one I 1 feel sure if the secretary or the navy had authority to the boy instantly and the boy would never have a chance of getting back there would be no moie hazing |
