Show FIRE IN CHICAGO chicago dec 19 one fireman was killed and several employed emp loyes may have lost their lives in a alro which destroyed tho enamel sign factory of the charles M company 7 to 16 park street tonight until the ruins of the building have been searched it will not bo irown whether any of the employed emp loyes were killed cither in tho explosion which started the alro or by the falling of the wall sand floors which followed soon afterwards while the fire was at its height one of the walls suddenly collapsed and a number of firemen were in the debris with the exception of lieutenant henry bassett of truck company no 74 who was crushed to death all of the firemen escaped with a shaking up A number of employed emp loyes were injured in the panic that followed and tor a time there were all sorts of rumors current there were girls and 14 men employed n the factory and all according to the officials of tho company but two have been accounted tor the firemen however declared that several employed emp loyes were to make their escape and gerein the building at the the floors and walls and until the debris ie cleared away the number of casualties will not positively be known the employed emp loyes who are sald to bo missing by the officials of the company are margaret becker and henry saute tho of the building which waa and the content la asu u L |
