KILLED BY FALL OF GRAVEL MADS MEETS DEATH AT HIS WORK was supervising excavation of gravel pit when large maw fell fatally injuring him from fridays standard without warning a mass of rock and gravel at the gravel pit at huntsville caved in soon alter noon yesterday catching road supervisor mads saard in its descent and inflicting in luries which resulted in the death of the unfortunate man within two hours after the accident occurred the news ot the accident and he death of mr threw a pall huntsville Hunts rille and last night the one topic ot conTer 0 streets of that town was the unfortunate occurrence that had robbed the ally of one ot its most esteemed citizens at the urae of the accident mr was directing the ork or a force of men and hid stepped 0 o one i side of the gravel pit which had been recently excavated leaving a mass of material overhanging suddenly and from no apparent cause the mass became loosened and descended upon mr burying him those present hastened to his assistance and after considerable effort succeeded in extricating hm from thy debris ii wa seen that he was seriously it not dangerously in and lip wa at once taken to his home ami r shield one of the local summoned A hast examination showed that r Wan saard had both of his legs and four ribs broken and had suffered nl ernal injuries that could not at the line be determined realizing that upon prompt action depended deo ended the man s life it it could be saved at all dr shields at once telephoned to dr boce of this city to come to his assistance si the latter responded to the call as promptly as was possible and as setting mr when he expired tile deceased was one of the old resi dents of and a member of a family which has for many years been identified with the interests 01 weber county he leaves and fire children two sons and three daughters notice of the funeral arrangements range ments will be given later
