Show OUR SCHOOL TEACHERS the following communication was handed in by a lady who hakea exception to teachers who in their official capacity countenance dancing and card pl ayin the lady makes a good point namely it would biava been in better taste for alie late teachers convention to have closed s ith an intellectual feast in preference to a dance and card party our teachers eeck to have forgotten the biblical injunction that there as a time to dance and to play etc etc our lady correspondent undoubtedly wishes to impress on the mind of the ogden educators that their time to dance is over we presume that the next city holding the state convention will want to po Ogden ono better and give the dance and card party a cigar and a toddy and later on the boys perhaps will want to eamile bome dixie ft ine EDITOR STANDARD I 1 noticed by the paper last week tha guests of the recent teachers convention were entertained with a dance and card party I 1 have heard lunch criticism ot alie ogden teachers on all bide bat have been noali ine of a public julure it seems to me that such a breach of public fiorala ought not to be allowed to pass unchallenged I 1 have children attending the public i and they are both ery loyal to their teachers 1 have always my children alint dancing and card are and I 1 am placed in the delicate position of one who must tell them that cither their teacher or their kotlier Is wrone it seems to me that most fair people will concede eliat whatever the private views of the teachers may be on these pastimes they ought not as a body of educators place such an example before our children and as one mother earnestly protest we would most certainly protest if the teachers should publicly advocate any forn of religion and BO should we when they advocate publicly any particular form of vice 1 have been surprised that there seems to have been no public criticism from any one on this subject the press and the have been silent above all it seems most that among all of the teachers themselves some of whom claim to be christians there should not be any to protest against such a lowering of the standard ot morals to thoe who think it ought to be apparent that dancing and card playing are the great foes to intellectual advancement and moral rectitude and are run to such an excess that they are tha tane of oar modern society if oar minis tor teachers and editors are too busy or loo indifferent to take up this subject the parents of the school children at least ought not to be A botnen |
