Show SALT LAKE "EQUITABLE LOAN" MAY SETTLE CLAIMS Salt Lake, July 26. Assurance that the Equitable Loan & Investment company of Texas, which came into disrepute in Utah recently through the arrest of several of Its officers on cnarge of obtaining monoy under false pretenses, will make good its deals with its Utah clients, was given giv-en yesterday by L. H. Prltchard, attorney at-torney for the company, who is hero to make adjustments. Several months ago J L. Wyatt, secretary of the company, was arrested arrest-ed on complaint of Harvey Fisher of Clarkston, Utah, who charged that he had been Induced to pay 5100 fee and to mortgage his home to the company with the expectation of obtaining a $1,000 loan, -which was not forthcoming. forthcom-ing. Wyatt was released under 3,000 bonds, but this was increased to $5,00 several days lales when numerous similar complaints reached the county coun-ty attorney A general investigation of tho company's operations in Utah resulted. Hearing on the case has been postponed from time to time to allow Mr. Wyatt to straighten out matters, which he promised to do. According to statements made by Mr. Prltchard yesterday the company will make every effort to reimburse those who posted fees and gave mortgages mort-gages covering expected loans, but it Is understood that the adjustments will be made with securities and not with cash A local Jaw firm reports several sev-eral adjustments for Its client through Mr. Prltchard. but these are said 'o have beon far from satisfactory. Mr. Pritchard has written to several sev-eral county attorneys in the stale, where complaints against company officials of-ficials are pending, promising an adjustment ad-justment or all claims. Further prosecution pros-ecution of these complaints will be held up, It Is said, pending the outcome out-come of the promised adjustment. |
