Show lial Hill Iff Witnesses in Bribery Case Say Franklin Exonerated Attorney Los Angeles. July 16. More witnesses wit-nesses testified today at tho bribery trial of Clarence S. Darvov that Bert H. Franklin, Inconversatlons with them, had exonerated Darrow from any complicity with the jury bribery. Franklin on the atand had denied making any such statements The mysterious man whom the defense will probably attempt to show furnished the bribe money, was again brougnt into the record by George W. Hood He testified that' Franklin had told him the unknown man was within a few feet of him whon the money wac passed to Juror Lockwood. Franklin, tho witness said, had told him he believed be-lieved the mysterious stranger came from San Francisco. Hood was not cross-examined. Frank E. Domingnez, nn attorney, told of several conversations with Franklin In which the latter praised the defendant for his good qualities and protested the innocence of Mr. Darrow. ' Bert said he never received a dishonest dis-honest dollar from kDarrow," testified the witness, "and that Dai row knew nothing about the bribery of jurors lie said Darrow would never stand for any corruption or dirty work." |
