Show 1 ; ; OGDEN SHOULD DEMAND RECIPROCITY. I ! y -i The publicity bureau is to investigate business conditions in Ogden, having as one object the searching out of business houses j ' which,' obtaining patronage from this city, do as little as possible to make the city prosperous. ' I. J There arc firms in this city, with headquarters elsewhere, that M ji have all their statements mailed to Ogden, the bookkeeping and I other office work being performed at headquarters. i T Ogden objects to being squeezed for all that an outside bnsi- 3 ness establishment can get out of the city, and in return receiving nothing. The old Bell Telephone company, while the head offices ' were in Salt Lake, attempted such a policy; but met with the de- v termincd opposition of the Standard. When the new organization took charge, one of the first changes made was the restoring to the Ogden office of the bookkeeping department. , : While the publicity bureau is prying into the lack of reciprocal relations on the part of many outside concerns doing business in '? Ogden, would it not be a good move to look up the distributing i 'i agencies of Eastern houses which, seeking and obtaining Ogden ' v business, have no agencies here and do all their business through their representative in Salt Lake? , . Ogden is a better distributing point than Salt Lake and should , j be recognized and, no doubt, will be if our business community I makes a strong protest against the present system of draining Ogden I of every dollar within reach and giving nothing in return. Those we support must in turn help maintain prosperity in this city. All wideawake places are making and enforcing such dc- mands. It is a selfish policy, but nearly all successful business is 0; basd on that principle, and a city is as much entitled to profit 1 , by such methods as an individual concern. |
