In the hearing in tho suit of Peter Geddes and others against the Anaconda Cop-por Cop-por Mining company, brought for tho purpose of sotting asldo the Halo of the Alicp Gold and Silver Mining company to the Anacodna company, John Gillie, general managor of the Anaconda, called to the stand by tho plaintiff in efforts to show that the Amalgamated and Anaconda companies com-panies are operating in violation of the Sherman anti-trust act, testified toda3' concerninc; the purchaso by the Amalgamated of the Heinze proper-tics proper-tics at tho conclusion of Butte's famous fa-mous "copper war" Gillie testified that Heiuzo yas paid $10,500,000 for his holdings, making -public for tho first time the boBis of settlement. Ho also testified that former Senator V. A. Clark was paid 55,000,000 for the properties ho sold the Amalgamated two years ago The complainants completed the Introduction In-troduction of testimony this afternoon and T. J. Walsh, attorney for tho plaintiffs, was tho first witness called by tho defense. Mr. Walsh was asked whore he secured in tho Information on which he drew tho complaint in tho suit-, the complaint boing In do-tail do-tail the purported history of the organization or-ganization of the Amalgamated and the offorts to form a combine. Mr. Walsh repllod that he had secured se-cured this information from his clients In Nov.' York, Chicago, and rSalt Lake, as well as "from other sourcos." Tho taking of testimony in the hearing will be completed tomorrow. |
