Show J. C. BEATTY IS SENT TO PRISON In Judgo J. A. Howell's division of tho district court this morning, J. C. Beatty was sentenced to servo one year in tho state ponltentlary for forgery, to which h pleaded guilty Thursday morning. In passing sentence, tho court announced an-nounced to young Beatty that he was disposed to extend clemency with tho understanding that the offense would not be repeated. Judge Howell advised ad-vised the prisoner that ho had given minimum sentences In tho past under un-der the admoriltlon that reformation be accomplished, but that In some instances in-stances tho parties had violated the law as soon as they wero liberated from the penitentiary. In such cases the heavier sentences had been inflicted in-flicted for tho second offense and, the court said, It would bo so in this case. Beatty promised that this would bo his last offense, it being his first, and that as soon as ho had served his time he would return to his home and do right Beatty explained to tho court that ho had served three yearB in the navy and was "honor- ably released" from the service after serving hlB full time. Tho prisoner will be taken to tho state ponltentlary Monday.
