Show H : u, . H WHAT THE POUR-STATE FAIR NEEDS. H Dr. K. M. Rowo, as manager of the Four-State Fair, has made a H comprehensive report in which, after reviewing the financial dif- H i fi cullies encountered, he offers this suggestion: R , "Iu order to make the Four-State fair a success it is necessary Hj , to have the support of all the people, and at the present time it has Hl not that support. It has practically the united support of all the H people in this county and surrounding counties, but not the support H of certain factions in the oity of Ogdcn. The matter of discon- H tinuing this fair is a serious question, as it is recognized as one of Hl the important fairs in the United States, on account, principally of Hi its being the largest livestock fair in point of number of exhibits in HI f the United States. For the past two years the number of stock ex- H hibited at the Four-State fair has been between 3,000 and 4,000 H We did not know that tho fair had assumed such great pro- M portions as to be classed the largest livestock exhibition, in point H of the number of exhibits, in tho United States, but undoubtedly the H i figures and comparison given are correct With such a showing on H li i the part of the management there is no excuse for the people of H Ogdcn failing to manifest more interest in the undertaking, as the H , fair is deserving of better recognition locally than has been given. B The publisher of this paper managed the fair for two years and H knows how important a factor is the support which the public can H extend or withhold. Wo are not pleading for ourselves, as we have V no desire to again carry the worriments and uncertainties of a H local fair, but in fairness to others who may take up the burden, we N J urge the necessity of a greater interest on the part of the people of M J this community. N There should be a strong organization to promote the fair not M for one year, but for a period of years. Some one should be cou- M stantly laboring in behalf of the fair, as many of the exhibits and M amusements must be arranged for a year in advance of the date of M the exhibition. B J A successful fair is a great advertisement for any city or coun- H t ty and is a "business magnot. Whilo the immediate returns ma' not H be large, eventual!' the benefits amply repay the outlay. B As notice to the outside that a community is neither dead nor H sleeping, nothing equals a meritorious fair. |
