Show 'GREGORY IS' IN A BAD STATE Rushing from the county jail this morning icrylng. "Murder, .Murder, Murdor, Help, Help!" WlnfieM Gregory Greg-ory made u frantic effort to escape, lie was soon captured by tho doputv sheriffs and again placed In his coll. Yesterday Gregory's slstors of Philadelphia Phil-adelphia telegraphed transportation to him and the officers concluded that they would start him on his way homo Ihls afternoon. Tho man had not been shaved for a number of days and tho sheriff ordered that he be taken to the barber shop for a littlo tonsorlal treatment, but as Officer Ludwlg approached the outer door of tho jail with the man tho fellow made a break for liberty, crying murder an 1 shrieking for help as he ran across tho lawn south of the court house toward to-ward the street. Officers Ludwlg and DeVino succeeded suc-ceeded in catching tho man before he reached the street, but l required their combined efforts to subdue him After being returned to the Jail the man buried his head In his hands and moaned pitifully, inquiring as to his family. Tho past few days Gregory appeared appear-ed to be Improvingand it was thought that he was able to continue his journey jour-ney home. When told this morning that a ticket was awaiting him he was cheerful and expressed dellghl that he would be permitted to go home, but he acted the part of a madman mad-man when he reached the outer door Tho officers are in a quandary to know just what to do with him but it Is more than likely that he will be examined for his sanity and be sent to tho state mental hospital for treatment treat-ment the expectation being that ho will improve sufficiently within the next few weoks to go to his home in Philadelphia. nn |
