Swenson occupied tho stand today in the trial of Benjaimln Marks, charged with conslpracy in the alleged furnishing of police protection to J. C. Maybray and his 'swindlo syndicate." Swenson Swen-son to whose work the conviction ot numerous members of the Maybray gang was duo, was questioned regarding re-garding a written confossicn given him by Maybray. Alleged discrepancies discrepan-cies between this confession and a is tor one wore explained by Maybray, when he was op the stand, by the statement that some things forgotten forgot-ten at the time ho wrote the second confession were mentioned in the original document given to Swenson. Attorneys for Marks sought to get from Swenson tho admission that he was under Investigation by concress on charges of corruption and questioning ques-tioning along this line was barred by tho court after a. wordy encounter between be-tween opposing" counsel. |
