Show CARL ALLISON I , ':: TO i-s Hfflfflfl Mm.hI M-i.II S n U I HI I ffl R H U ?v mr V II Kh Or oUtN l! My character has boen attacked po frequently of late by two, sheets calling themBoIves newspapers and by hired workers who represent themselves them-selves as being employed and standing stand-ing In this community, that I am compelled com-pelled to come to my own defeuso through the medium of tho press, although al-though I had thought that Christian people, professing a profound belief in tho Christian spirit of "Do unto others as you would have them do unto un-to you," would be more fair to a young man who has tried since his advent itno public life to build a character of honesty, sobriety, and a fair dealing deal-ing among tho citizens of Ogden. I have been accused of everything under un-der the sun. My family has boen dragged into this campaign in a shameful manner. Even my mother and father, who have passed the aso of usefulness, and who pride them-solvefl them-solvefl on their standing In this community, com-munity, cannot be allowed to pass their declining years In peace, and I Bay, with all candor and with tho tho public as the judge, that E M. Allison, ray father, or Eliza Allison, my mother, will measure In character or reputation head and shoulders above the man (?) who wroto that malicious attack on my family name In a recent issue of the Weber County Coun-ty Citizen". And I make the further Btatement that the article referred to was not Inspired by George WilBon, tho editor, but by a person who has no Influence In this community and who does not care to sign his communications com-munications for fear that his falsehoods false-hoods would be hurled back at him and his own character exposed to public gaze. I hold that It Ib no crime to sorve the public in an official capacity even If your father or brother has, perchance, per-chance, held positions of trust in the past. I was asked by numerous friends and business men to permit my name to go before the Republican convention conven-tion two years ago for the office of City Recorder, which I have held for one term, and the record will show that my name was placod before said convention by Gcorgo Halverson, a prominent attorney of Ogden arid I waB elected by a majority of 999 to tea. During my term of office I have Oi endeavored to work for the interests vV ot Ogden City. I have tried to be 'ii' courteous to the public My records VI are complete and my office Is In good condition. y Ono word to Mr. John S. IeIs, .ti manager of tho Square Deal (7). Do - you think it fair to charge mo with T being a Belle London candidate? Do Ti the people of Ogden think that that ft? woman haB any strings on me? Does wjfi John S Lewis 'have In his possession ft any evidence to substantiate his la- . vtt famous conclusions7 If so 1 challange Hr Ijlm to produco them. Shame on you, 'f Mr. LewlB! Shame on any man of ' ' j your standing in this community to jm attempt to besmirch the character J of a young man who Is trying to build s. a reputation among his fellow men. , V"J And I want to seWe notlco upon Mr. 1 Lewis right now and here that his in- famous statements relative to my be- "? Ing In harmony with Belle Ixindon In , this campaign shall not go unchnl- lenged, and If there Is any redreBa in " the courts of this state aeainst such attackB, I shall take advantage of them, ', , In conclusion, T desire to refuto j r some campaign lies that are being clr- culnted for the purpose of defeating ' " me on November 7. : First I do not stand for a wide- ? open town, bnt on the contrary for the very strictest regulation of tho -' liquor traffic. i Second I am opposed to any ;',4j. change from the present regulations fj without tho consent of the people ex- '$ pressed by referendum. .' 1 Third I favor the employment of : ' home labor, on city work. ' MJ Fourth 1 shall Insist on competen- j M cy in official positions Irrespective of ; politics or religion. -A Fifth I shall endeavor to reduce ;M the present running expenses of Og- w den City by consolidation of depart- yfj'SJjl ments. v Sixth I favor the employment of j resident taxpayers on all public work VJ w so far aB possible at a substantial 'J wage. ( l:j Seventh I do not believe in char- 1 actor assassination to gain a public 1 A position. j ! I stand on the above. "2H (Signed) CAST, att icnv . Jgj |
