Show ou- RAISING Of PEAS IN DAH0 VALLEY SL Anthony, Ida., Jnn. 25.-The pen Industry of Idaho Is now fully assured and every indication points to its bo-ing bo-ing one of the most profitable as well as largest crops. Fremont county haa taken tho lead In tho matter, but next year several othor counties of the state will raise largo quantities and It Is expected that within a few years the crop will be fully established and that it will bo one of tho best crops for the farmors to raise. Mr Olson has raised a few seed for many yoars and when he began farming In this couuty ho was determined to prove tho feasibility feas-ibility of the crop's production. In 1909 he attempted to Interest several of the largo oastorn seed houses In the Idaho seed pea proposition, proposi-tion, but the houses scorned the Idea of raising auch a crop hero. Tho farmers farm-ers could not be persuaded to make the experiment In fact they ajl ridiculed rid-iculed tho idea. But Mr. Olson was undaunted and during that year bo planted five acres on his own land. Tho yield was better than he had expected ex-pected and the next year he had no difficult In getting his neighbors to raise some also. Different seed 1ioueg3 became interested in a small way and sent in ordors for small quantities. Last year S00 acres were raised in Fremont county and the farmerB wero so delighted with the outcome that now 0,000 acres have been contracted for During the last three yearB the pcaa have averaged a yield of forty-flv bushels to the acre. The farmer Is paid about $1.80 per bushel, rnaking on Income of about $81 per acre.
