Show v-nj . .. TIME OF THE ARRIVALOF FOWLER N R. Cooper, advance agent for Aviator Av-iator Bob Fowler, the sea-to-sea bird-man, bird-man, left Ogden this morning for Salt Lake City to confer with members of I the Commercial club which is making an effort to havo the transcontinental r flyer make a side trip to the capital. cap-ital. Before leaving this city this morning morn-ing Mr., Cooper stated that ther,e waj little, possibility of Aviator Fowler malcing the trip to Salt Lake, unless tho Commercial club agrees to pa an amount of money sufficiently largo to make tlfe side trip profitable The ad-vance ad-vance man says that, had Fowler not met with tho accident at Towle, thereby there-by losing several days" time, the trip to Salt Lake would, make little difference differ-ence in tho schedule of the air man With several days already lost, any dctouring means the greater endangering" endan-gering" of the chances of winning the 50.000 pgrke which W. R. Hearst Is offering. Cooper is carefully watching the progress of Aviator Ward who is now winging his way westward from New York City. Should the eastern avl. ator reach the Pacific ocean before Fowler has dipped his planes Into the Atlantic, the California birdman loses the Hearst purse. -The advance agent of Fowler smiled when he learned that Aviator Ward had lost his way in New York state and theroby haji lost soveral miles In his western flight. The route which Fowler is taking is several hundred miles shorter than the one chosen by Ward. Aviator Ward, in trying for tho transcontinental Piirsef chose to fly farther rather than to cross the high altitudes of the Rocky mountains. Because of this fact, he Is traveling on a southern route. Aviator Fowler is making a straight air line across the continent Should he bo successful in hopping the mountains, he will not only have a great advantage over his opponent in miles but will have the wind at his baek most of the time during his trip. Because of the continued delay, in the repairing of his machine, it' Is probable that tho birdman will not arrive in Ogden until Tuesday or Wednesday. "- |
