McManlgal In tho attempt to destroy the Llewellyn iron works Dec. 25, The arrests, which the four men expected, ex-pected, took place just outside tho federal courtroom, following their appearance ap-pearance in connection with the indictment, in-dictment, which was returned Dec. 30, 1911. Proceedings in that case bgan this morning, but amounted only lo a motion mo-tion to defer until afternoon the filing of a general demurrer to the indictment, indict-ment, and a motion to strike out certain cer-tain parts of it. The formalities were accomplished late today, and then tho four men were arraigned upon the two new truo bills, which were filed with the final leport of the federal grand jury on Jan C Tho time for arguing the demurrer and for the accused labor lenders to plead to the new charges, was set for Jan. 29. Nev Bills Against McNamaras. The two new bills charge that Ortle E. McManigal, the McNamara brothers, broth-ers, now in San Quentln penitentiary, David Caplan and Milton A Schmidt Tero follow conspirators of the accused ac-cused labor leaders. There aie four counts in each of the two new indictments. Bonds fixed at $2,000 for each of tho defendants were furnished The new hills set forth that McManlgal McMan-lgal had traveled fiom Riverside, Cal , to Los Angeles In December, 1910, as part of an interstate trip from Chicago, and had carried with him 10 ntiarts of nitro-clvrnrinn thni .7. B. McNamara, now serving a life term in San Quentln, had come here Aug. 1, 1910, and remained some time In furtherance of the alleged conspiracy, and that McNamara brought 1G sticks of dynamite from San Francisco to Los Angeles Sept 29, 1910, two days before the Los Angeles Times building build-ing was destroyed. Another allegation, not contained In the previous indictment, was that Munsey, in furtherance of the alleged conspiracy, had made a trip from Salt Lake City to Los Angeles in November,. Novem-ber,. 1910. The letter Clancy was alleged al-leged to have written from this city to J. J. McNamara at Indianapolis asking that Joseph Hockln, a labor leader of that city, be sent to holp tho striking iron workers of Los Angeles, An-geles, also was incorporated in the new bills. |
