Show H HARRIMAN UNIVERSITY AND OGDEN. H Mrs. Mary E. Thurston, a niece of E. H. Harriman, has been in Salt Lake and, after receiving marked attention, she has volun- H teered to see Mrs. Harriman in an effort to persuade the widow of H the late railroad magnate to locate the memorial university in Salt H Lake City. H This is' equivalent to reasserting that Mrs. Harriman is to build B ' the memorial and that Utah has bright prospects of obtaining the H institution of learning. H That should be notice to Ogden to be up and doing. When the H announcement was first made that Mrs. Harriman had planned a H commemorative work, this city became an active candidate for the H honor of being designated the university site, but the campaign H received a severe setback when Mrs. Harriman was quoted as say- H ing she contemplated no memorial. it With this latest announcement H from the niece of the great railroad builder, it might be well for H Ogden to renew its efforts. H Our opinion is that Mrs. Harriman has in view the expending H of much of her fortune on some great uplifting work in the name m of her husband and 'that she has in mind the building of an educa- Hl tional institution; we are also of the opinion that Ogden, because Hl of its location and its relation to the great achievements of E. H. Hl Harriman, has more than an equal opportunity with rival claim- H ants for recognition. But Ogden must be sufficiently assertivo not B to be overlooked through failure to have all its merits properly set M forth. The presentation of Ogden 's advantages must be accom- Hj plished in a manner not overly intrusive and yet as strongly pcr- H suasive as a duo regard for Mrs. Harriman 's dislike of contention Hj and insistent rivalry shall permit. |
