Show PASTOR IN JAIL; wiFncmiis BOSTON, June 27 Mrs. Elizabeth Bayllss, wife of the Rev Edgar E. Bnyllss, a prominent minister of Som-ervllle, Som-ervllle, who Is serving n three months' Jail sentence for libel has been forced to become a scrub woman to support herself. Mrs. Bnyllss, who is f2 yoars old, works part of the time at scrubbing and port of the time a6 a laundress She frequently has to work In the homes of members of her husband's congregation homes to which 8he used to go ns a friend. Mr. Bayllss, who wns pastor of a Congregational church, was sont to Jail because ho was unable to pay a fino of $250 imposed in the libel suit brought against him by former Mayor John Woods of Somervllle. The clergyman was accused of having hav-ing inspired a story printed In a Somervllle paper charging Woods with having been drunk at a Fourth of July picnic. The Rev. Dr. Conrad, pastor of the Park Street church of Boston, hnpos to raise $250 to pay the fine. He has promised that his own church will subscribe $50. |
