The highest price reached was $9000, at which the original edition of William Blake's poem, "Milton," was sold to George D. Smith, presumably for Henry E. Huntington of California, Califor-nia, The first French edition of a Boccaccio Boc-caccio work, which Mr. Hoe acquired for less th'an $4000, was sold to Smith for $7000 Miss Belle Green, librarian for J. P Morgan, paid $35000 for a copv of "The Marriage of Heavon and Hell," by Blake. One of tho most startling Jumps in a book's value was taken by William Cullcn Bryant's presentation copy of "Tho Embargo," bought by Mr. Hoe in 1SS8 for $24 and sold to W. F. Wallace today for $3550. A romanco written by Luclen Bonaparte Bona-parte and addressed to Madame Juber-thon. Juber-thon. whom ho married in 1802, was sold "for 31725. This work, of which only three copies are known to exist, wns bought by Mr. Hoe for $1200. Napoleon Na-poleon Bonaparte caused the edition to be destroyed, but three copies were preserved It was announced thatt he sale has reallved $250,000. |
