At tho Orpheum thl6 week there is a beautiful little character study of i Irish flavor, entitled "The Old Nelgh-I Nelgh-I borhood," excellently portrayed by James Callahan and Jenny St. George. The act depicts an Irishman's home in New York, with scenic effects that aro perfect In detail and color. Mr. Callahan's interpretation of the old Irishman is refreshing and clever, not overdone, but true to Hie. Jenny St. George Is a harpist and vocalist of great ability. Her various selections were roundly applauded. Tho groat Asahl and his company of extraordinary Japanese artists ! mado tho hit of the evonlng "in their ( tricks of magic, mystery and gym-nnsticB. gym-nnsticB. Tho foature of this act was tho foot juggling and bnlanclng of the Kltamura brothers, who are the premiers pre-miers in tholr line. Asahl's thumb and flug trick as well as the human fountains foun-tains were myBtorioiiB and pleasing. In the act, "Andree's Studies In Chl-r" Chl-r" "Ufi Ivory," there arp presented somo new ideas with clearly outllnod decorations. The act is one that is admired by tho lovers of the beautiful, as well as the students of art and is something far above the average Some of the subjects presented Include In-clude "The Ride of the Witches," "A Mantel Decoration," "Lyra"' and "The Chariot." The Temple quartette presented a highly refined singing act, which was well received. Ono selection, 'The Rosary." was effectively rendered The melodious four had to respond to an encore before the audlenco would lot Ihem go. La Vina Do Witt, a lady conietist, opened the show with some pleasing selections. She is an artist with the cornet and her solos were well received. re-ceived. She has a sweet voice, which she uses in two numbers. Bowman brothers, burnt cork comedians come-dians furnish somo good comedy and many laughs, but they ruined an opportunity op-portunity of making one of the hits of the evening by cracking ono or two coarse jokes and doing one of those "rough-neck" dances, which the usual person does not expect or want to see on the Orpheum circuit. That part of the act is all right for a "Honkoy-Tonk" "Honkoy-Tonk" In a mining camp but outside of that the Bowman brothers are all right. A general summary of this week's bill would class it as one -of the best 1 1" pi-oi'vid cords that has been at tho house In weeks. It Is really a dollar hi.o.. i or llity cents. The lovers of good vaudeville should not miss It The klnodrome pictures and selections selec-tions by the Orpheum orchestra, the best musical organization In Ogden, complete the splendid bill, which runs the remainder of the week, with Wednesday Wed-nesday and Saturday nutinces. |
