Show FOUR TRAINS " Most Disastrous Accident Acci-dent in History of an Eastern Road Fairfield, Conn., June 7. One of tho most disastrous freight wrecks In the history of ' tho New Haven railroad, near here early today, when four freight trains piled into each otber, killing two men, injuring at least seven, sev-en, two fatally, and leaving two unaccounted un-accounted for. The dead. WILLIAM LAURIE, engineer, Hartford, Hart-ford, Conn. Fireman, name unknown: scalded to death. The accident happened a few moments mo-ments after midnight In an isolated spot. The trains in the wreck were three extras and the regular New York fast freight. One of the extras Jumped tho eastbound track and crashed Into a second train which was passing on the westbound track. Trains running close behind each of the two extras crashed Into the wreckngc almost Immediately. Crash followed crash. Two boilers boil-ers exploded simultaneously and tho wreckage caught fire. An ambulance and a tralnloud of physicians, nurses and police, wore sent from Bridgeport to care for tho wounded, who, as fast as they were taken from beneath tho cars, were sent to Bridgeport hospitals. |
