Wharton Whar-ton of l Mortonseu court. 71 years old, forty-three years of which ho has spent In Snlt Lake City, and his daughter-in-law and little granddaughter seem to be having more than their share of haTd luch. The stepson of the aged man, Walter Wal-ter T. He has been laid up for about thr6e weeks, and for tho past week hns been in St. Mark's hospital. hos-pital. Ho is now considered out of danger, but it will be about two weeks before he can leave the hospital and several moro hefore he will bo able to do hard work. Wharton, although he has been crippled crip-pled from rheumatism for about nine months, has been struggling, with the help of Mrs. Conway, to support the family. The little girl Is 8 years old Mrs. Conway Is healthy and strons and would bo willing to work If she had tho opportunity. Thc:aged man, however, is not able to do any work and relief should bo furnished. t To add to the other troubles, tho little girl has been ill for some time and hn3 had to have a doctor for throat trouble. Th old man was not inclined to (ell his tioubles, hut when questioned said that in a few days tho family would bo out of flour and giocorles unless aid is received. The family has a pony, buckskin in color, which it would like to sell, as it is too full of Hie for Wharton to manage and its sale would furnish immediate im-mediate relief, besides lessening the expense its keeping requires. It is a sound pony, weighs about 800 pounds, is S years old, well broke and it can be purchased for $50. Another case of near-destitution has como to light in the family of Mrs. Fitzgerald, who lives in a lerited house at 529 West Third "North street. Mrs. Fitzgerald's husband died recently, re-cently, leaving her without means and three children, the oldest only 10 years of age. Mrs Fitzgerald is said to bo a good dressmaker, but despite this and the fact that sho has advertised sho has been unable- to obtain sufficient suffi-cient work to maintain herself and tho children and pay the rental on the house. The rent is overdue and unless charitably inclined folk of (he city como lo Mrs. Fltzgorald's aid she and her children will face destitution H shortly.
