Jan. 27 Dense fog that blanketed the harbors and adjacent waters last night and this morning tied up a big fleet of trans-Atlantic liners and coasters down the (bay and outside the harbor entrance and was the cause of tho running ashore of two steamers In the extromo wesUva reaches of Long Island sound. There were no reports of accidents from down the bay, but for hours several sev-eral shiploads of pasougers were obliged to wait for the fog to lift and permit the liners to proceed to tho piers. The big turbiner, Mauretanla, from Liverpool, and the Frederick Wiihelm from Bremen were both detained de-tained outside. - |
