Show NEGRO SOLDIERS IS PALLBEARERS CAMBRIDGE. May 12. Six negro soldiers from the Sixth regiment bore Into the Ancient first parish church of Cambrldse. M V G., this afternoon, after-noon, the body of Colonel Thomas Weutworth Hlgginson, tho soldier, reformer re-former and author, whose funeral was attended by a great throng, representing repre-senting tho military civic and literary liter-ary life of Cambridge and Boston During tho civil war, Colonel Hlgginson Hlggin-son commanded a roglment of negro soldiers. The services at the church were In charge of the Loyal Legion and were of a simple character, there being no eulogy. The body was escorted from Colonel Hlgglnson'a late home , by uoionel T. w. Hlgginson camp, Sons of Veterans, and by the Lonl Legion. Tho honorary pall bearers were President-Emeritus Charles W. Elliot, and President Lawrence Lowell, of Harvard university, former secretary of the Navy John L. Long, Colonel N P Hnlloway Rev Ed. Cummlngs, p.i6tor of the South Congregational Unitarian church, Boston. Geo. H. Mifflin, Charles Francis Adams, and Dr. Edward Emerson. The ashos will be buried In Mount Auburn cemetery after tho body has been cremated. 00 |
