Show BAm BOOMING HUM FOR MAYOR. 1 Since Mayor Glasninnn has sent to the council his recommenda- m lions for a compromise on the saloon question and has demanded m that the saloons shall close at the same time that other business M houses close, he is being charged Avith laying his plans to capture j , the office of mayor this fall to succeed himself. 1 Some assert that tho mayor will claim the saloon vote because H his newi liquor law will prevent Ogden going "dry," and that he m ivill claim the prohibition vote because he inaugurated the best reg- m nlated saloon Ogden ever had, with early closing hours and a rc- m duction of the number of saloons; and thus it is maintained that the H mayor aims to get al.l the votes "coming and going." H Now, dear reader, we will take you into our confidence and H tell you that Myor Glasmann has no ambition to succeed himself. H He is not, and will not bo, a eandidato to succeed himself. That H ought to be sufficient to convince all that they vill have to look for WM a new mayor. H The new mayor, under the now charter for Ogden city, will re- H .celvo $4,200 per year and he will be' required to give al.l 'his time H and attention to his duties jis mayor and commissioner of Ogden H The present mayor roceives only $1,00 per year, or $100 per H month, but is not required to give his entire attontion to the city H affairs. Any man, with ordinary' good judgment, "should realize Hl that a man miming both a morning and. evening paper can, not H afford to take an office that requires all his time. While the salary H of 4,200 per year is sufficiently inviting to make the man seek the office, yet jlr. Glasmann could not get a man or men to take his place on the Morning Examiner and Evening Standard for the salary the city would pay the next mayor. lie has served the city four years as mayor at $50 per month and his present term at $100 per month. This indicates that lhcpresent mayor did not seek tho office for the salary the city pays, and surely he could get no more honors serving as mayor, having served three terms. Let the talk and booming of the present mayor to succeed himself him-self stop. The mayor does not want the office. This is final. |
