Jimmy Doyle, third baseman for the Cubs, gained a victory y esterday whon the National commission declared the I-Diiisvlllo club of the American association was Indebted to him in the sum of SS33 as his share of the purchase money paid Louisville by tho Cubs for his release. Owner Grayson, of the Louisville Louis-ville club offered a defense which did not appeal to the National commission and he was ordered to pav tho money to Doylo. " ' When Doyle signed his contract with Louisville he insisted there be a clause Inserted whereby he was to receive one-third of the money in case he was purchased or drafted, but Grayson Gray-son in his defense declared he knew nothing of the clause until the caso was brought lo tho attention of tho commission. He then examined tho contract and found the aforesaid clause, but declared he was not a party to It. It was found by the com-mlwlon com-mlwlon that Secretary Wilbur of the club had inserted tho paragraph at the request of Doyle, and that a3 Wilbur Wil-bur was the agent of Grayson, held Grayson responsible. |
