Show SUGAR TRUST'S CAMPAIGN GIFT NEW YORK, July 21 The Amorl can Sugar Refining company contributed contrib-uted $10,000 to help Benjamin Harrison Harri-son In one of his campaigns for tho presidency against Grovor Cleveland. The contribution was told of by John E. Parson, former attorney for the company In his testimony before the congressional committee which Is Investigating In-vestigating the affairs of the so called trust He could not remember whether wheth-er It was tho first or the second campaign. cam-paign. Mr. Parsons frankly boasted that he wa.s the "pioneer In the formation of the Amorlcan trust," and was proud of It, but scouted the Idea that hc sugar trust constituted n monopoly such as the Standard Oil or the American Amer-ican Tobacco companies. The committee spent the afternoon viBlting several -large refineries in this vicinity, and held informal conferences confer-ences with many superintendents, but took no testimony. C. A. Sprockels is expected to take the stand tomorrow. |
